Taking data further

Indirect Heat Interface Units (HIUs) have a plate heat exchanger (PHEX) separating the heat network and space heating circuits. Consequently, the energy meter within the HIU only measures the secondary heat network flow rate, heat network supply temperature and heat network return temperature.

Unique to the Kamstrup MULTICAL® 603 energy meter is the option of adding an additional ultrasonic metering station (UMS-54) which can be installed within the HIU on the tertiary space heating circuit.

Performance Monitoring

Continuously monitoring the performance of space heating systems within all apartments, this can help to determine and shave off peak heating demands.

Design & Sizing

Monitoring heat demand for different apartment types and sizes (hence only installing these in a selection of apartments). This can help designers and consulting engineers determine whether heating loads have in fact been oversized.

Commissioning

Verifying the correct commissioning of space heating flow rates collectively and through individual heat emitters that have pre-settable thermostatic radiator valves installed on them.

Energy Usage

Establishing the correct pump setting, which can often be guess work, for different apartment types and sizes (hence only installing these in a selection of apartments). This could lead to excessive energy use.

Commissioning & verification using UMS

Being seen

In addition to the verification of commissioning the UMS will continue to measure the space heating volume weighted average return temperature (VWART), giving a greater insight to the efficiency of the individual dwelling. Continuous automatic monitoring and targeting (AM&T) using the Smart M-Bus infrastructure ensures the building remains as energy efficient as commissioned, and where the building is not, that the required remedial work can easily be determined and rectified as quickly as possible.
